Six months ago, a group was founded to wed design talent and design need. Called desigNYC, its mission "is to improve the lives of New Yorkers by connecting nonprofits, community groups and city agencies serving the public good with passionate, professional pro bono designers." Launched by New York Magazine and ESI Design, the founding board members and designer volunteers at desigNYC provide pro bono design guidelines, best practices and resources, host community-building events, and promote design collaborations to accelerate and celebrate their impact.

On Thursday, June 17, at Pratt Manhattan Gallery Space (144 W 14th St, 2nd Fl),  DesigNYC will showcase 12 pilot projects developed over the past six months. If you cannot be there, below are some of the projects and you can see videos here

(top) Sam Eliot and Dory Pogers collaborate on a design charrette for the Added Value Farm on Governor’s Island.

(below) Cover design for Eating Healthy in Bed-Stuy by Darhil Crooks.

(below middle) Circulation analysis by Joel Sanders Architect, Balmori Associates and Domingo Gonzalez Associates.

(bottom) Cover design for the Power is in Your Hands (NYCHA green guide) by The Rooster Design Group.

As I was scrolling down to the poster images... I saw the young man with his arm an older woman... scroll, scroll... "eating healthy in bed"...(what??!!! hahahah) oh wait, that says "bed-stuy"..... Ok, so I'm the mental equivalent of a 12 year old, but that's funny stuff.
