Print has received the magazine industry's highest honor four times previously, including Print's 2008 win in its circulation category. This year also marked Print's 11th nomination in the General Excellence category.
 
In this year's citation, the American Society of Magazine Editors writes: "Entertaining, informative, and beautifully packaged, Print explores design in its social, political, and historical contexts. Whatever the subject, Print explains to its readers why our world looks the way it looks and why the way it looks matters."
 
In her moving acceptance speech at the award ceremony last night, Emily Gordon, Print's editor in chief, spoke to the essential role played not just by Print's own staff and contributors but by magazine makers everywhere, who bring passionate ideas to passionate readers:

"I accept this honor on behalf of every last person in this room.... Whatever happens to the day-to-day work we do, let us not forget the nobility, the industry, the beauty, and the dignity of print."
