Eight Desks on Show at Sebastian + Barquet London

FreeFormDesk by C. Perriand (c. 1960)

January 10, 2008. “Soft as the thighs of a woman,” is how Charlotte Perriand described the rubbed finish of her FreeForm desk. Perriand’s lovingly crafted pine desk will be one of eight desks produced between 1940 and 1985 by American and French designers to go on show at the Sebastian + Barquet London gallery from January 15 through March 14. The exhibition will follow the evolution  of the 20th-century writing desk through a presentation of a handful of elegantly pragmatic pieces by Perriand, Jean Prouvé, Jean Royere, Pierre Jeanneret and George Nakashima. The combination of functionality and sensuality is, indeed, worthy of a peepshow. sebastianbarquetlondon.com
