Does anyone reading this know how to say happy birthday in Dutch? If so, join me in wishing Anthon Beeke, one of The Netherlands’ leading theater poster makers, happy 70 jaar. Tonight at Pakhuis de Zwijger in Amsterdam a gaggle of friends and colleagues will pay homage. Included are Wim Crouwel, Uwe Loesch, Jan van Toorn, and our native grown, James Victore (moderated by Max Bruinsma, editor of Items). If you happen to be Amsterdam, visit Pakhuis.

Beeke established his own graphic designpractice in 1963, working mainly for literary publishers, museums, culturalmagazines and theatrer companies. From 1976 to 1982, when he was assistant director of Total Design, followed by the creation of his own Studio Anthon Beeke in 1987. For more visit EYE magazine here.
