Arisman: The Movie

Posted inThe Daily Heller

Arisman: Facing the Audience is an 80-minute documentary on the life of Marshall Arisman (below, bottom), illustrator, painter, educator, spiritual monkey chronicler (above), and raconteur. The film follows him from his New York studio to his Beijing exhibition. (Arisman was the first Western illustrator to be honored with an exhibition in the Chinese capital). The decidedly informative and entertaining film was directed by the late Tony Silver, who also directed Style Wars. If you are in New York on Wednesday, January 21, you can see it at the Society of Illustrators, 128 East 63rd St., starting at 6:30 p.m. And if the cinematic version of Arisman isn’t enough, you can meet the artist afterward—he’ll be there raconteuring. If you can’t attend, read more here and view his website here.
