Dobie Dobie Doo

Max Shulman’s The Many Loves of Dobie Gillis was one of the first books I ever read through from cover to cover (in fact, that’s the cover above). It was also one of the few TV shows a literary maven like me watched as a kid.

Sadly, it hasn’t turned up on any of the cable channels or on DVD. So this is a plea to the programmers at TV Land, Spike, or Lifetime. Please bring back Dobie (Dwayne Hickman), Maynard G. Krebs (Bob Denver), Zelda Gilroy (Sheila James), and Thalia Menninger (Tuesday Weld, whom I’m told is my distant cousin). Oh come now!
