Fairey Dusts Venice

Dateline Italia: Is it just coincidence, or is it by design that Frank Shepard Fairey (b. 15 February 1970 in Charleston, South Carolina) arrived in Venice this week (the same week I’m here with the SVA Masters Workshop)? No, he’s not stalking me. He’s here to create graphics during the Venice Beinnale that will support “SMS Venice” (Save St. Marks), an organization that preserves the Venetian architectural heritage. He is scheduled to create murals in Campo Santa Margherita and Piazza San Marco. Finished work will be sold at auction and proceeds donated to SMS Venice. This year’s goals are the restoration of the city’s famous Rialto
Bridge and three historic churches: San Giorgio Maggiore, San Giuseppe,
and the Chiesa dei Gesuiti.
