Product of the Week: 5/13/08

Florals may be in fashion for spring, but last month’s Milan Furniture Fair found former flower fiend Tord Boontje abandoning his beloved bouquets in favor of something earthier: His Witches’ Kitchen collection for Artecnica’s Design With Conscience program included hand-sewn patchwork potholders, carved wooden utensils meant to evoke the tools of witchcraft (bet you forgot to register for spurks, floons, and spoonchetas, too), and black ceramic casseroles and saucepans (pictured), whose ghostly, fossil-like imprints are the result of leaves pressed into still-wet clay and burned off in a kiln. Hand-molded by Colombian artisans, it’s cookware that rethinks the cauldron: Curved lids with wide grips double as serving dishes, saucepans stack handily atop the casseroles to save stovetop space, and the whole collection is microwave- and oven-safe. Multi-leaf set (casserole and saucepan stacked), $1,200. www.artecnicainc.com
