San Francisco’s Architecture & The City Festival

Distributed Ecologies, rendering by grey.studio

September 3, 2008. The anchor to San Francisco’s 2008 Architecture and the City Festival will be the juried Urban Re:Interventions exhibition, which presents design perspectives on the city fabric through the eyes of architects, designers, landscape architects, and "urban guerrillas." From small-scale street furniture (a potted plant that grows from a manhole cover) to formal urban interventions (the redesign of Stevenson Street between 5th and 6th Streets, South of Market) and graphical wraps on Muni buses that depict endangered species, winners were chosen for challenging the accepted vision of what a modern city should be. Studios on show will include Shift Design Studio, 450 Architects, CMG Landscape Architecture, Gelfand Partners Architects, Activist Architecture, the Vapor Advanced Interdisciplinary Studio at CCA, and grey.studio. Through October 26. aiasf.org/archandcity
