PRINT’s Regional Design Annual.
The deadline for the 2008 Regional Design Annual has now passed.
This issue, the Regional Design Annual, is the most comprehensive survey of graphic design in the United States-and one of the biggest issues to hit the graphic design industry each year. All winning work will be organized by region and featured in the December 2008 issue of PRINT. We received more than 20,000 individual entries for the 2007 Regional Annual, from almost every state. The process of selection in all regions of the country was as stringent as ever, and, as always, we feel that the work we chose is first-rate, and that it represents the best design, illustrations, and photography being produced throughout the United States.
Creativity+Commerce, PRINT’s International Business Graphics Prize
The deadline for this year’s International Business Graphics Review has passed. The work from our newest and fastest growing design competition will be featured in the October 2008 of PRINT. It will bring together for the first time the full range of work done for corporate clients around the world, from print ads, corporate identities, and flyers to animated short films, websites, and interactive games-and much more.
PRINT’s Student Cover Competition
Our Student Cover Competition, started in 1964, is a unique opportunity for students to have their work featured in an award-winning design publication that is distributed internationally. The deadline for PRINT’s April 2009 issue is June 30, 2008, and we will begin accepting entries after March 17, 2008.
Like last year, we are asking students to continue to create a cover to fit our theme, “DESIGN CULTURE YOUTH,” the focus of our New Visual Artists issue. We feature 20 of the most promising new talents in design—all under 30—as well as the Student Cover Competition and articles on education trends. The typeface, size, and position of the PRINT logo and accompanying tag line, “DESIGN CULTURE YOUTH,” appear in the upper-left-hand corner and cannot be changed. Designers may use any color they wish for these elements. All cover submissions must be mounted and presented in finished form, with trim size at 9" x 10 7/8". The designer should also submit the cover in digital format on a CD. Please note that no more than five (5) entries per school may be submitted. The following information must appear on the back of the printed submission and on the CD casing:
—the designer’s name, address, phone number, and e-mail
—the instructor’s name, phone number, e-mail, and school’s name and address
If for any reason we are not able to show a student submission on the cover, we will show all the winners inside the magazine. We also recommend that students avoid using copyrighted or trademarked materials as part of their cover designs because we may not be able to print the cover if legal permissions need to be obtained. If models are used on the cover, please include a signed release form. The results of this year’s competition will be published in the March/April 2009 issue.
Professors and students who are interested in participating should click here for additional information, specs, and a downloadable version of the PRINT logo, or email studentcover [at] printmag [dot] com.
New Visual Artists Competition
For eight years, we have featured an annual issue called the New Visual Artists Review, introducing and profiling 20 of the most promising rising talents in graphic design, advertising, illustration, digital media, photography, and animation—all under the age of 30. This is an invitation-only competition, and our choices are drawn from nominations made by art directors, designers, critics, and industry professionals. The issue has met with an astounding response, offering much-deserved exposure each year to 20 young artists doing innovative work. The only criterion is that the designer must not turn 30 before March 1, 2008.
