Here are the blots, I mean blotters, that made business better. These are advertising blotters, so popular in the pre-ballpoint days when fountain pens were de rigeur and ink stains were preventable with good old blotters.
Like the banana peel advertisement decades later, blotters were an excellent, functional way to promote a product or idea. And as the note bellow indicates, the blotter makers had their own ideas when to use them.
