Heroic illustration is the art of gesture, and there are many gestures that convey heroism, which in turn implies authority. They go deep into the marrow of art history, and emerge even today in advertising and propaganda.
They include standing tall, sitting erect, puffing the chest, extending the arm, staring intently, wearing tight pants, striking a pose, showing off muscle, being a superman.
