This is not some isolationist campaign against foreign intervention. No, See America First by Thomas W. Jackson of Chicago, Illinois, is from a series of “joke” books, filled with a fair share of racist stereotypes about the American pastime—travel. This was the age when Americans were able to board a ship or train and go almost anywhere. Jackson capitalized on this wanderlust with a series of silly books that almost always highlighted the country’s racialist, ethnicist and regionalist distinctions. Good clean fun?
