One lovely thing about the past is the language used in advertising and other designed materials. Consider Slenderizing Frocks. This was the theme of this somewhat surreal catalog for Lane Bryant, a retailer that continues to sell women’s wear today.
But there is more than language that sets this apart. The illustration style is unique to its moment in time: the late 1920s. Women were not drawn the same way in the Victorian era or the Postwar age. This and other artifacts like it are visual history frozen in time and commercial heritage locked in space. Turning the pages is like entering a world that most of us never experienced and will never really know.
Oh yeah. And look at those prices. Uniqlo? Muji? Wow!
