“Certified artificial color” may have been a value-added proposition when Howdy orange soda was in business, but it’s hard to believe artificial anything (even intelligence) would have any traction today. At least when Califruit, “California’s Orange Beverage” was sold, they had the good sense to print those words in small type.

Do we really know what went into vintage soda brands, or what goes into them today? There’s a lot more than sugar or sugar substitutes. Whenever I drink diet sodas I get headaches. What’s up with that? Even some waters are not what they seem.

Most people don’t care. They are attracted by a nice label, alluring bottle and the artificially colored liquid therein. Then that sugar is the final seducer. Forget the toxic coloring, soda will kill you with sweetness.
