Bar’s Finest CutsCut the Conflict at the Rook & Raven Gallery in London will exhibit Noma Bar’s distinctive mixture of ‘double-take’ imagery and biting social commentary to a new level, by collecting different materials from countries in conflict and exposing their current political and social situation. The exhibition goes from November 22 to December 21, 2013.
Here’s Bar with his dog die-cutting machine. The die-cutting machine features a range of Bar-designed stencils, and allows people to create their own negative-space artworks using a range of materials.
The Sun Always RisesAmarillo, TX is red in the face with a terrible sunburn, since it found that the city’s new logo is an almost exact duplicate of one for a Dubai development company. A U.S. Patent Office search revealed Emaar Properties filed for a U.S. trademark on its logo design in 2006. Well, bless their hearts. The Amarillo News-Globe quoted the creators:
“We had several different designs submitted by different people involved in the branding process,” she says. “Based on the feedback that we received in those projects, in-house we designed a logo that we’re very proud of … Even though we vetted it in-house to make sure that it did not exist out there, somehow it slipped through the cracks and it was brought to our attention (Monday) by someone else in our IT (department).”
Gross said two city departments researched the artwork to avoid duplication with any similar designs and did not find any. Gross said city staff designed the logo, but declined to identify who designed the emblem.
The city budgeted about $30,000 for the entire rebranding effort, but not all the money was spent, Gross said.
