Artist and stationery designer Danielle Maslan was hunting around a local animal shelter in search of the perfect pooch. “I wish I could take all of them home,” she laughs. Though she has yet to find the right hound, she did come across inspiration for her latest project, American Gothic, a calendar-postcard two in one featuring the sweetest dogs and cats. When a month is finished, there is a perforated edge to easily tear off the calendar half, leaving a beautiful postcard to send to your nearest and dearest. And as an added bonus, a percentage of sales for American Gothic will go to the Brooklyn Animal Resource Coalition.

“Postcards have always meant a lot to me,” Maslan says. “I feel like people don’t do it enough anymore.”

Maslan’s designs, under the moniker Foxtail Press, can be found at www.modcloth.com and McNally Jackson Books in New York City. The American Gothic set is forthcoming, but individual cards of the dogs and cats are available. See Foxtail Press for more information.
