Hanksy Scoops Banksy with Col-Bear Street Art

Britain’s Banksy, the elusive graffiti artist who is well known for his exceptional street art addressing social and political issues, has set up residence in New York and he’s blogging about it. His first post has made his mission clear:

Banksy BeginsNo doubt, he or she is incredible. But let’s not forget our own local, and also beloved street artist, Hanksy,  known for his incredible ability to bring pun and art together into one cerebral medium. Fan favorites include the Will Ferrell cat series (a must see) and Tron Swanson, but there are many others. If you get a chance, listen to Hanksy’s journey to reconnect with Tom Hanks after a chance meeting.

The Challenge
It wasn’t actually a challenge, but more of a quiet hum of neglect. After Colbert tried to coax Banksy to  draw something on a dedicated canvas outside his studio, Hanksy came through. Not a bad canvas either. Colbert is watched by two million viewers every night and ranks in the top two late night shows every evening. The exposure was worth at least two million street images.

Colbert was obviously impressed by the gesture:

Perhaps trying to make up for losing the eyes of 2 million viewers, Banksy caused a stir yesterday when he posted a confession on his website:

“Yesterday I set up a stall in the park selling 100% authentic original signed Banksy canvases for $60 each.”

Good, but not the Colbert bump. Today, Hanksy is the victor. Tomorrow, is another day.
