Biological and toxin warfare is not new. It dates back to the 6th Century, when Assyrians used nasty fungus to contaminate the drinking water of their enemies. Centuries later, Native Americans were infected with blankets laced with small pox. And toxins of all kinds are being developed in laboratories here and abroad. Its a wonder we’re not sicker than we are.
During World War II Americans believed the Germans were gearing up for biological warfare, triggering counter development by the Allies in 1941 with the weaponization of anthrax, brucellosis, and botulism. Ugh. The Italian Fascist government was so certain they would be subject to an attack from germs and gas, they developed foolish plans to cope with the inevitable. While reasonable to have precautionary and curative procedures, the plans and treatments presented in this comical booklet were ostensibly ineffectual. Fortunately the airborne germ and gas attacks did not come to pass.
