One person’s aesthetically dubious logo is another one’s dubiously subversive jab at Islam. Or so we learn in this report from Iran:

Tehran warns it may boycott London event, calls on other countries, Islamic nations, to react “to jeopardize Olympic games in the world.” Iran on Monday said it might boycott the 2012 London Olympics because of the event’s “racist” logo which resembles the word Zion, the official IRNA news agency reported.

The secretary general of the National Olympic Committee said Iran had made the complaint in a letter to the International Olympic Committee President Jacques Rogge and was waiting for a response.

While design critics complain that the London 2012 logo is, well, goofy and even more goofy, it takes Mahmoud Ahmadinejad to see a more nefarious message. Wonder what he makes of Zion National Park? Or the Zion Pizza and Noodle center?
