As regular Imprint readers surely know by now, the five-day HOW Design Live superconference—organized by Print’s sister publication, HOW—kicks off this Thursday in Boston. For New Yorkers who can’t make it up to Boston, however, we’re excited to announce that Print will be the media sponsor of another promising event taking place this week. On Friday, the never-dull design firm Karlssonwilker will be celebrating its 11th anniversary with a pair of enticing happenings at the Art Directors Club. First, from 2–5 p.m., there will be a free “conference / show / forum / symposium” featuring several prominent local designers, including Stefan Sagmeister, James Victore, Emily Oberman, Scott Stowell, and Paul Sahre (acting as the emcee). Later, from 8–11 p.m., KW will host a proper party, with free drinks. (There is a $10 cover that goes to the Art Directors Club.) Space is limited, so be sure to RSVP!
On Friday, Imprint will be hosting live coverage of the KW11 anniversary. To get a sneak preview, we asked KW’s Nicole Jacek—whom we caught in the midst of a “hurricane of work”—to answer a few quick questions:
So why celebrate your 11th anniversary instead of your 10th?
We missed the 10th.
The conference is described as “an intimate mix of talk, discussion, show and performance.” Can you tell us a little more about what to expect?
No. Because we don’t have it all figured out ourselves.
You’ve lined up an impressive roster of speakers. How did you choose this group? Was there anyone you couldn’t convince to participate?
These are our friends. Only two people couldn’t come due to some design conference that same weekend.
I see from Karlssonwilker.com that your office contains a bar area and a “musical corner,” and that Karlsson and Wilker apparently really like to karaoke. Is it as much fun to work there as it looks?
