"Sensation and Sentiment" is an extensive film poster exhibition that looks at the key years 1912-14, when business and marketing practices were used in visual form to attract cinemagoers to an increasingly crowded cinematic environment. The 54 works on view--mostly lithographs from the U.S., Britain, Germany, France, Russia, and Italy--are works of art in their own way and show how exhibitors, for whom the star system hadn't yet been born, enticed customers from the streets with graphic or dramatic posters.
The exhibition runs through Aug. 23.
