The Strata project by Quayola is a seductive jewel, commissioned and developed for the Bordeaux Art & Architecture Biennale. There are (currently) three pieces, each representing a city’s signature works—Bordeaux, Rome, and Paris. The idea is pretty simple: paintings are analyzed for color composition, then broken down into triangle pieces of color. Each triangle is then given a height based upon its color temperature, thereby creating a landscape from each painting. Once that analysis is complete, the works are animated and rendered to video.
