If you’ve got fifteen minutes to spare today over lunch, watch this video. It’s fascinating.
This is a short film looking at the work of one David A. Smith, one of a handful of expert craftsmen who designs, cuts, etches, sandblasts, and gilds glass signage. His typography is breathtaking; effortless swashed (mostly) Tuscan and script forms, painted, etched, and covered in gold. Majestic work, to be sure. This film appears to be a labor of love by English filmmaker Danny Cooke with a soundtrack by Tony Higgins (who also has work available for download via the Free Music Archive).
