I recently visited my local gap, to find that RED campaign was in full swing. For those who have not followed it, this is an attempt to encourage purchases of Gap gear where some proceeds will go to needy causes. This is but one of the various attempts at tying retail to philanthropy.
I won't question the motives--though they certainly can be questioned--but I will question the design ethic. Does one buy into RED to show that one has "given"? Or is the RED design concept actually a turn-off for those who wouldn't mind "giving" but do not want to be tied to a design concept?
