One of the co-founders of the Village Voice, John Wilcock used to
publish a magazine called OTHER SCENES. It was a NY underground that
was slapped together and written almost entirely by Mr. Wilcock. He was
the pioneer of DIY (do it yourself) before the term was coined. He also
produced and starred in one of the first cable public access talk shows
(which apparently is still airing).
I just learned he is also still publishing magazines, his main one is Ojai Orange
and back issues are available online. He still pastes them up himself
(and they look it), but they are fascinating documents of a true
original. Check out the website too - and share in a legacy of underground design. |
