Art Basel Miami
got off to a thundering start last night with a free concert on the
beach performed by Iggy Pop and the Stooges. For a dude of his advanced
years he was amazing. The music may have been off-key, but he jumped,
pranced, and gyrated around stage with the best of them.
The party scene was also in full flower with events at the Delano, Shore Club, and others up and down Collins.
And, of course, there was the preview of Art Basel itself at the
Convention Center. While much of the art appeared safe and
conventional, the viewers and dealers were resplendent. Deals were
continuously being made, and you could spot a collector by the cash
notes in their hankerchief pockets.
