Dateline New York: Stefan Sagmeister's first major solo art exhibit, Things I have Learned In My Life So Far, at Deitch Projects was packed last night with admiring fans and onlookers. The crowd pulsated with excitement while the likes of Milton Glaser drew glyphs on the steam filled window of the Deitch's steamroom, and David Bryne waited patiently to purchase the Sag's latest book Things I have Learned In My Life So Far.
Fortunately the Sag-man is tall enough to rise high above the huddled masses inching their way into to the cramped quarters, so he could be seen even from the main gallery, where a wall covered with bananas serves as a backdrop for one of his inflated angry monkeys.
When this reporter and his entourage were unceremoniously spit back out onto the street, the serpentine line waiting to enter (and not just for the free Austrian lager, mind you) had stretched down Grand to Green Streets.
The exhibition runs from January 31 to February 23 at Deitch Projects, 76 Grand Street, New York.
