WHAT DO YOU THINK? I, for one, see many great students and I see many bad students. The great one is really wants to learn. We had a student at MFA Designer as Author (SVA, New York) now who maintained a blog - a diary of her day in the program. It was wonderful to read because was critical at times, but totally consumed with her experiences. What struck me was, It was not about "what can they [the faculty] give me next?", it was about "how can I contribute". It was about building a community. That's what makes a great student. There are excellent student designers who will compete with to "be the best." But these designers don't necessarily make the best students. You could be an ok designer and still be an excellent student. Ultimately the design will take care of itself. |
