| Caricaturist Robert Grossman told me recently of an assignment for Forbes magazine over thirty years ago where the cheeks on face of his subject was colored pink. Everyone loved the caricature, but Malcolm Forbes requested the pink be eliminated. Why? Because he might be construed as "Communist." Back in the days when pink meant more than baby girl, even the hint of it could ignite a political firestorm. Today pink is pink, red is republican, meaning the most vivid color on earth has become neutralized. Oh, by the way, Grossman convinced Forbes he was being silly. |
