Bruce Nussbaum seems to think so. His now legendary (that happened
fast) speech on "Are Designers the Enemy of Design," a rather long and
rambling discourse on how designers, like doctors and plumbers, are
trying to keep all the wealth for themselves, has raised such hackles
and cockles that an entire issue of the online journal NextD
has devoted space to fifty rebutees (and others). Its worth a
read, if only for Gunnar Swanson's snarky comment. I was invited to
participate but decline - since I had nothing to say - but I will say
this, give design back to designers and keep it away from all those who
pretend. I don't believe in DIY as a profession, though its fun from
time to time.
