All The News That Fits

The New York Times was first published as the New-York Daily Times on September 18, 1851. It’s America’s oldest daily. It was quite a different paper: “We shall be Conservative,” wrote its Republican publisher, Henry Jarvis Raymond, “in all cases where we think Conservatism essential to the public good;—and we shall be Radical in...

Lunch Break Video: Rocketbus

After a year hiatus, Print in Motion—Print magazine’s only competition devoted entirely to motion graphics—is back and better than ever. And to announce this year’s glorious return, we invited L.A.-based filmmaker (and one of our very own Imprint stars) Trevor Tuttle, to create this year’s promo spot. With the help of some very talented...

Lunch Break Video – MTV 2011

This innovative spot for MTV Brazil was created by director Dulcidio Caldeira of Paranoid Brazil. Such a clever way to create stop-motion. Apparently, to achieve this effect, the balloons were fastened to a rail which went the length of two football fields. The popper traveled at a rate of 600 balloons per minute.

Lunch Break Video | (notes on) biology

(notes on) biology from ornana films on Vimeo. Danny Madden, Jonathan Silva and Will Madden (collectively known as Ornana Films) created this brilliant hand-drawn exploration of “bored in class” doodles. Wait for it, because it’s worth the ride.

Lunch Break Video: Lemony Snicket's End Titles

Lemony Snicket’s End Titles from Jamie Caliri on Vimeo. I first saw Jamie Caliri’s work at the end of Lemony Snicket’s A Series of Unfortunate Events. This closing credit sequence had greater impact on me than the actual movie. The sequence were created by director and animator Jamie Caliri. I met Jamie a few...

Lunch Break Video | Eatliz – Lose This Child

Israeli directing duo Yuval and Merav Nathan are at it again. This music video for Eatliz perfectly showcases their patient stop-motion skills. This directing team received a Grammy nomination for their work on Oren Lavie’s Her Morning Elegance. This video is primarily sand sculpture… shot on a beach in one laborious night with the...

Lunch Break Video: PES part two | Roof Sex

Here is the second installment in our exploration of PES and his promiscuous world of stop-motion animation. On Tuesday, we saw his latest film The Deep. We travel back to his first stop-motion animated piece: Roof Sex. Although playful and inventive, I’d recommend headphones if you’re watching this in an open office.

Lunch Break Video: PES part one | The Deep

Here is the most recent film by director PES. Being a fan of stop motion and contraption, this film to hit me just right. Commissioned for Showtime Short Stories, this film is more of a meditative poem than the whimsical punchline that traditionally punctuates his work. Over the coming days, I will be featuring...
