Weekend Heller: It Takes Guts to Make a You

Just when I thought I’d never, ever find plush body organ toys, the merry mailman brings a “Humongous Heart Plush” from my friends at OCD, Bobby Martin and Jennifer Kinon. It’s just one of many cuddly internal wonders of life, including Placenta, Liver, Prostrate, Testicle, Kidney, Colon and the “Oversized Ovary Plush-Ova Achiever” (bottom). All these were born and raised at I Heart Guts!

I don’t easily get excited about plush toys. But these specimens make my heart skip a beat. It’s a happy way to say “Get Better Soon.” Or “Hey patient, show me where it hurts.”

From the catalog; We’ve got more heart for you to love. This great big heart is a whopping 10″ x 8″ x 4″ super-soft high-quality embroidered plush, perfect for hugging—or beating. This muscular organ pumps blood throughout the body and beats about 100,000 times per day! Comes with an educational booklet hangtag describing the magical workings of your heart. This might be just the coeur for your fave cardiologist. Safe for all ages, packed inside a biodegradable plastic sleeve. Designed in California, made in China.

COLON-NO-TAG_grande

Soft and cuddly 11″ x 8″ x 2.5″ colon plush wants to do more than just make excretory magic—it wants to be your friend! The colon makes up most of the large intestine and is the magical tube that transforms digested food into feces. Your colon is colonized by a dynamic microbial ecosystem—bacteria account for 60% of the mass of your fecal solids. Wow!

OVERSIZED-OVARY_lrg_grande

The ovaries produce eggs and release sex hormones estrogen and progesterone, which control all kinds of female reproductive mayhem from period regulation to babymaking.
