Design Observer is moving off the screen and into the sunlight of retail. Well, insofar as it has opened an online store to sell its new line of Observer Editions, including collected writings about Massimo Vignelli that had appeared on Design Observer, collected writings by the late Bill Drenttel, and the new Fifty Books/Fifty Covers—a real stunner. Also, the premiere of The Quarterly, Design Observer’s ink-on-paper journal (“The Acoustic Issue”), is available here.
This new publishing arm (or wing) is part of a larger trend in design entrepreneurship, particularly resulting in books and magazine. Watch the Daily Heller for further reports on these exciting ventures.
