Most of you are probably too young to recall when Barry McGuire sang “Eve of Destruction,” but it still gets air play as an oldie and continues to have relevance.
The eastern world, it is explodin,’
Violence flarin’, bullets loadin,’
You’re old enough to kill but not for votin,’
You don’t believe in war, but what’s that gun you’re totin,’
And even the Jordan river has bodies floatin,’
But you tell me over and over and over again my friend,
Ah, you don’t believe we’re on the eve of destruction.
Well today there would be different lyrics, but similar sentiments are seen in protests of all kinds. One of the latest in a rash of protest and dissent books addresses all these issues. Hope to Nope: Graphics and Politics 2008–18 is the most recent book by the publisher GraphicDesign& based on an exhibit in London of the same name.
