Deliciousness In A Tin

“When the first SPAM® Can came off the production line in 1937, the world was forever changed,” states the product website. Well, I can second that emotion. As a 19-20 year old, I consumed inordinate amounts of the stuff. Although it was tough to look at (all pink and extruded as a block of congealed goo), once it was fried up, hmmmm, hmmmmm, good!

“This revolutionary new product won over the hearts of soldiers, world leaders, celebrities, chefs, kids and parents. George Burns & Gracie Allen, Dwight Eisenhower, Margaret Thatcher and Monty Python all have sung praises of SPAM® products. And future generations continue to enjoy it as a versatile, high-quality and great-tasting meal-time favorite. The whole world can’t get enough of the iconic taste and the effortless meal creativity contained within this little blue can.” I had enough to last a lifetime during that two year period. But it was surprisingly tasty.

This is my ode to Spam: Wham What a Ham! Spam What a Wham!!!! (with apologies to “Mr. Blandings Builds His Dream House“) on my favorite of all holidays.

By the way, did you ever wonder what this delicacy was made from? See here. And what a perfectly apt logo too. Few designs to that much justice to the product.
