Jayme Odgers (b.1939) helped define the California post-modern, eclectic aesthetic in the 1970s. He is well known for his new wave design and experimental collage photography of the 1980s. He was commissioned to create posters for the 1984 Summer Olympics. His work has been shown at the Museum of Modern Art in San Francisco, the Brooklyn Museum, the Arco Center for the Visual Arts and the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts. (See more here.)
He suffered a stroke this past January, which is affecting his ability to swallow, speak and work. To aid in paying his medical bills LAUNCH projects and Merry Karnowsky Gallery in Los Angeles are presenting a benefit exhibition and sale of Odgers’ works: Saturday, February, 19th 6-10pm at LAUNCH projects on La Brea Avenue.
The paintings and works on paper are from Odgers’ personal holdings and will be offered at 50% of retail prices. 100% of the proceeds go directly to the artist to assist with much needed medical and other related costs. Donations will also be accepted.
The exhibition opens on Saturday, February 19th from 12-6pm with an opening reception from 6-10pm and a closing event on Saturday, February 26th from 6-10pm. The exhibition will also be open to the public February 22-26, 12-6pm. LAUNCH projects is at 161 S. La Brea Avenue, Los Angeles, California.
