My MFA Design student, Zhoa Miao, ran into my office today excited by this animation done by his younger classmate back in China, known as Red (real name Tao Zhi Qiang). The film exhibits extraordinary craftsmanship and storytelling. For the past two years he made every single person, place and thing, in this heart-wrenching tale of wartorn Nagasaki before the atomic bomb blasted the life out of the Japanese city. You can see it here.

“He came from a pretty poor town in China, and got accepted into a big city university,” Zhoa told me. “He made terrific work with the least artistic background, but the most enthusiasm. This is only his second animation work.”
