Sign painter Mike Meyer is bringing his hand-lettering workshop to New York on 29-30 November 2014, 10 a.m.–5 p.m. Hosted by local shop Van Zee Sign Co, this workshop will give participants a chance to learn from one of the masters, with brushes, paint and lettering. It follows hot on the heels of Mike’s recent tour of Europe.

“Meyer has always been a well-known face in the international sign painting community through his passionate involvement with Letterhead ‘meets’ as far apart as New Zealand and North Wales,” notes a press release. “He has even hosted a number of these sign painting conventions at his own shop in Mazeppa, Minnesota. His profile was then raised outside of this community through his appearance in the internationally-acclaimed film Sign Painters, which has captivated audiences across the world.”

His aim is to start a process of learning and self-critique that continues after the workshop ends. Some past participants have been so inspired by the workshop that they have subsequently quit their jobs to become sign painters.

Van Zee Sign Co, 55 33rd St. (Studio A319), Brooklyn, New York. $395 for two days. Includes all equipment and refreshments.
