Anyone who has read Ayn Rand’s (dubiously ideological) The Fountainhead knows that architecture is the basis of a good plot. Now there’s a new play about modern design. The design and building of Mies van der Rohe’s Farnsworth House and Philip Johnson’s Glass House is the background for the penetrating dramatic plot that entwines the epic conflict between artist and patron.

The Glass House explores, say the producers, “the classic struggle of ambition, love and betrayal,” otherwise known as the world of architecture. Produced by architect Kyle Bergman, the play, by June Finfer and directed by Evan Bergman, opens May 16th at the Clurman Theatre at 410 West 42nd Street. In addition, there will be post-performance talks by Paul Goldberger, New Yorker magazine critic; Barry Bergdoll chief curator of architecture and design at MoMA; Christy MacLear, Executive Director of Philip Johnson Glass House; Whitney French, Executive Director of Farnsworth House, and others. Look here for times and see below for these modern classics (or rather, modern glassics).
