Dateline Italia: Cristina Chiappini is one of the most provocative designers in Roma. She has staked out what she calls the “cyber-pornogrphy era” with her experiments on the typographical body, the electronic body, and the human body. If this seems a bit enigmatic, peruse her Roses of Flesh Spines of Light project, which is designed, in part, to shed light on genital mutilation. While you’re at it, see her campaign for AIDOS (the Italian Association for Women), which advocates for freedom of choice and other issues affecting women in developing countries (above and here). She also did a subversively racy identity campaign for Marithé + François Girbaud jeans (labels/patches below and here), based on body parts. They make me smile every time I see them.
