Type in the movies (an occasional series): One of the most impressive typographic scenes in any movie is when the auto manufacturer Sam Dodsworth (Walter Houston), looks out on his factory complex. William Wyler’s 1936 Dodsworth is the tale of a middle-aged capitalist, the head of Revelation Motor Company,an automobile manufacturing firm. His wife, Fran, a shallow and vainwoman obsessed with the notion of growing old, convinces Sam to sell his company. In the scene above, Dodsworth surveys his former empire and the typeface that bears his name.
