Faces of Courage is a powerful view of ordinary people in extraordinarily difficult circumstances, photographed by veteran photojournalist Mark Tuschman. Subtitled Intimate Portraits of Women on the Edge, the people he’s photographed, Tuschman says, have “taught me the human condition is wrought with great uncertainty and suffering, yet the human spirit and the hope for a better life can withstand terrible hardships and even grow stronger in the face of adversity.”
What began in 2014 as a Kickstarter campaign (earning over $60K) was published this year, designed by Milton Glaser and Sue Walsh. It is the outcome of 35 years as a photographer and a decade of documenting women in developing countries where autonomy over their lives and bodies is challenged every day. Through his images, Tuschman brings “these women and their stories to the forefront of global consciousness.”
