The Hamilton Wood Type and Printing Museum‘s Bill Moran just announced the newly released app for the iPad, “Hamilton Type Match.” “It’s a simple type version of the classic memory game we used to call Concentration,” he said proudly, “and it’s intended for a variety of audiences, from youngsters to type lovers who want to improve their type recognition skills.” As the App Store blurb goes:

Test your memory while learning about the history of American wood type! The Hamilton Wood Type and Printing Museum is the only museum dedicated to the preservation, study, production and printing of wood type. This game is a version of the classic memory card game where players have to match identical cards that are showing off a small portion of the 1.5 million pieces of wood type housed by the museum.

There are 16 different typefaces highlighted with four difficulty levels. Play solo or with up to two additional friends. “A fun, simple game great for families as well as type, letterpress, and graphic design aficionados,” Moran adds. “What fun,” I say.

A portion of all app sales are being donated directly to the museum for the continued conservation and curation of American wood type. Go to the Apple App Store today.
