On a personal note: It was an indescribable honor to be honored with the Smithsonian Institution’s National Design Award. This institution (and its staff of directors and curators) is the foremost advocate of design in the nation. So, to have their support and the validation of my peers and betters in the field is as good as it gets. This is a video record of the award proceedings (note that Debbie Millman won the “People’s Choice” award for Design Matters, although owing to a technical snafu her gracious acceptance speech was not included in the video.)
