The miniaturist and tableaux master Paolo Ventura returns to New York with Venice in tow. His recent exhibition, “The Automaton of Venice,” is finally at the Hasted Kraeutler Gallery and opens on September 8 (to October 15).
His precision dioramas of beautifully dreary, eerily quiet Venetian locales set in the 1930s – somewhat surreal yet nonetheless quite real – are the basis for his exquisite large-scale photographic prints. His craft is impeccable. But there is much more to be felt in these stunning works.
If you are in New York visit Ventura’s Venezia at 537 West 24th Street. And see more of his work here and here.
