If you like Persian miniatures, you’ll like the home page of Shahre Farang, the Iranian version of peep boxes, a form of entertainment provided by wandering showmen. Shahre Farang were made of metal in the shape of an oriental castle with several holes.
“ShahreFarang.com is hoping to bring you visual treats,” say its two Iranian designers & culture vultures, Mehrdad Aref-Adib and Surena Parham. Surena is an Iranian-American artist and Mehrdad is Iranian born, London-based designer. Together, they are filling the web with cultural artifacts. The site includes vintage match boxes, typography on book covers, Iran Air ads, Little Black Fish book illos, vintage pen cases, covers with Brad Holland illustrations and much more. It comes in Farsi and English versions.
