Globe Poster was founded in Philadelphia in 1929. I never worked with Globe, which later moved to Baltimore, but we’ve all seen the kind of work they did, including Show and Carnival posters, signs and other woodtype, metal type and cold type productions. Many of you have copied their styles without even knowing it. As the digital tools alter the environment, and Gutenberg rolls over in his grave, its time to pay our respects to the crafts shops and crafts people who produced the printing that we look to today as “retro” and as inspiration.
