From time to time, Sam Roberts—ghost sign archeologist and proprietor of the London sign-writing studio Better Letters—periodically checks in with what's new and old in the show card business. He has curated a series of 10 lettering and typography-related events happening across this year's London Design Festival, and here he provides some offerings following the Easter weekend—the perfect time to paint signs as an alternative to hunting for eggs and bunnies.

Maestro Mike Meyers.

Sign Painting

"Our new book from Laurence King [is] a richly illustrated 'how to' for those starting out with the craft, including over 40 original alphabets from sign painters and lettering artists around the world. The relevant page on our website is www.betterletters.co/signpainting, where you can also find preorder information."

The Showcards Book

"This is one we're self-publishing, and features a retrospective of Mike Meyer's promotional workshop showcards from the last six years or so. I'll soon have spreads to share, but again we're taking preorders at a one-off discount: https://betterletters.bigcartel.com/product/showcards-book."

When Better Letters Met Barbara Enright

"We're doing an online release of this award-winning biopic about Australian showcard and ticket writer Barbara Enright on April 9. … The dedicated page for the film is at www.betterletters.co/barbara."

May the force of Better Letters be with you.
