Vintage Interiors

Posted inThe Daily Heller

Print may not be dead. But it is in tough shape. Where are the great magazines of the fifties that threw cares to the wind and allowed designers and art directors the license and funds to make great covers and interiors? Okay, I admit not all fit that bill. But many did, not the least of which was the brilliant INTERIORS magazine, published in the early fifties by Whitney Publications. For your nostalgic pleasure and my utter enjoyment, I reproduce here three of the scores of cover line-free illustrated covers by some of the great designers of the age. These are (top and below bottom) by Andy Warhol and (below top) Xanti Schawinsky (1904 – 1979), who was best known for his Olivetti posters. You all know what Warhol was best known for.

Do you know of some incredible vintage magazines to share?
